Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about using iPractis — explained simply.

Getting Started

3 questions

iPractis is an online tutoring marketplace that connects students with qualified teachers for 1-on-1 live lessons. We offer a wide range of subjects including languages, sciences, arts, and professional skills. Lessons are conducted through our built-in video classroom — no external software needed. You can learn from anywhere, at your own pace, with teachers from around the world.

Getting started is simple: 1. Create a free account — sign up as a student with your email or Google account. 2. Browse teachers — search by subject, availability, price, or language. 3. Book a lesson — pick a time that works for you and confirm the booking. 4. Attend your lesson — join the online classroom at the scheduled time. 5. Pay as you go — you only pay for the lessons you book, no subscriptions. You can also download our mobile app from the Apple Store or Google Play.

Yes. Creating an account and browsing teachers is completely free. You only pay when you book a lesson. There are no monthly subscriptions or hidden fees. The price you see on a teacher's profile is the price you pay per lesson.

Booking & Calendar

3 questions

1. Find a teacher you like by browsing our tutor directory or searching by subject. 2. Open their profile to see their availability calendar, pricing, and reviews. 3. Select a time slot that works for you from their available hours. 4. Confirm the booking — you'll be asked to complete payment. 5. Once confirmed, the lesson appears in your calendar and you'll receive a reminder before it starts. Teachers set their own availability, so you'll only see times they're actually available to teach.

Your calendar is your lesson hub. After logging in, you'll see all your upcoming and past lessons in one place. • Upcoming lessons — shown with date, time, teacher name, and a button to join the classroom when it's time. • Past lessons — shown with the option to mark as completed (if not auto-completed) or leave a review. • Reschedule or cancel — click any upcoming lesson to see your options. Teachers set their weekly availability (e.g., Monday 9 AM–5 PM), and you book into their open slots. When they update their availability, it reflects immediately.

Some teachers offer discounted trial lessons for new students. The trial price and any conditions are shown on the teacher's profile. After the trial, you can continue booking regular lessons with that teacher at their standard rate.

Payments

4 questions

Payment is taken at the time of booking. We accept all major credit and debit cards via Stripe (our secure payment processor). Your payment information is handled securely by Stripe — we never see or store your full card details. There is a small booking fee added at checkout to cover payment processing costs (typically $0.50 per transaction). The lesson price you see on the teacher's profile already accounts for this. All transactions are in USD.

Yes. All payments are processed through Stripe, a PCI-DSS compliant payment processor used by millions of businesses worldwide. Your card details are encrypted and tokenized — we never store full card numbers on our servers. Additionally, our entire site uses HTTPS encryption to protect your data in transit.

Refund eligibility depends on when you cancel: • Cancel more than 10 hours before the lesson — full refund to your wallet or original payment method. • Cancel between 10 hours and 30 minutes before the lesson — partial refund (typically 50% back to you, the rest goes to the teacher and platform). • Cancel within 30 minutes of the start time — no refund (hard block). If the teacher doesn't show up to the lesson, you'll receive a full refund. If you have a dispute about a lesson, you can open a dispute from your lesson history within 72 hours of completion.

Yes. If the teacher doesn't join the lesson within the grace period (15 minutes after the scheduled start), you'll be prompted to mark them as a no-show. The system will automatically process a full refund to your wallet. You can then use those credits to book with another teacher or request a payout.

Rescheduling & Cancellations

3 questions

You can reschedule a lesson from your calendar up to 10 hours before it's scheduled to start (the exact cutoff depends on the teacher's settings). Simply open the lesson details and click 'Reschedule' to pick a new time from the teacher's availability. If the teacher allows it, you can reschedule closer to the lesson time. Teachers can also reschedule lessons, but they must do so at least 1 hour before the start time. If a teacher reschedules, you'll receive a notification and the new time will appear in your calendar automatically.

There is a 15-minute grace period after the scheduled start time. If you join within this window, the lesson proceeds as normal (shortened by the delay). If you don't join within 15 minutes, the teacher can mark you as a no-show, and the lesson may be cancelled with limited or no refund depending on the circumstances. Similarly, if the teacher doesn't join within 15 minutes, you can mark them as a no-show and receive a full refund.

Our cancellation policy balances flexibility with fairness to teachers: • Full refund — cancel more than 10 hours before the lesson. • Partial refund — cancel between 10 hours and 30 minutes before. You get ~50% back, the teacher keeps ~50% for their time. • No refund — cancel within 30 minutes of start time. The teacher is still paid because they reserved that time for you. • Teacher cancellation — if the teacher cancels, you get a full refund automatically. Refunds are issued to your iPractis wallet by default, but can be returned to your original payment method on request.

Notifications

2 questions

The system sends you automatic notifications at key moments: • 24 hours before a lesson — reminder that your lesson is tomorrow. • 1 hour before a lesson — reminder to log in and get ready. • 15 minutes before a lesson — time to join the classroom. • When a teacher reschedules — notification of the new time. • When a teacher sends you a message — messenger notification. • When a lesson is completed or auto-completed. You can receive notifications via email and/or push notifications on mobile. You can manage your notification preferences in your account settings.

Yes. Go to your account settings and navigate to the Notifications section. You can toggle different types of notifications on or off. Note that some essential notifications (like reschedule confirmations) may still be sent even if you disable marketing or promotional notifications.

Messenger

2 questions

iPractis has a built-in messenger that lets you communicate with your teacher directly within the platform. You can send text messages, and share files. The messenger is available on both web and mobile. Messages are delivered in real-time, and you'll receive notifications when you get a new message. Important: All communication about lessons should happen within the iPractis messenger — not through personal email or WhatsApp. This keeps your information secure and gives us a record if any issues arise.

Yes. You can send a message to any teacher from their profile page before booking. This is a great way to ask questions about their teaching style, availability, or lesson plans. Teachers typically respond within a few hours.

Lessons & Classroom

3 questions

At the scheduled lesson time, go to your calendar and click 'Join Classroom' on the upcoming lesson. The classroom opens in your browser — no downloads or installations needed. It includes: • Video chat — see and hear your teacher in real-time. • Digital whiteboard — the teacher can write, draw, and share materials. • Screen sharing — the teacher can share their screen for demonstrations. • Chat — text chat alongside the video. For the best experience, use a laptop or desktop with a stable internet connection, a camera, and a microphone.

If you experience technical issues (poor connection, audio problems, etc.), first try: 1. Refreshing your browser. 2. Checking your internet connection. 3. Closing other tabs and applications. If the problem persists, contact our support team and we'll help resolve it. If a lesson is disrupted due to platform issues, we'll work with you and the teacher to reschedule at no cost.

Once the lesson duration reaches 90%, the 'Mark as Complete' button becomes available. Either you or the teacher can click it to confirm the lesson happened. If nobody marks it, the system will auto-complete the lesson 24 hours after the scheduled end time. After completion, you can leave a review and rating for the teacher. This helps other students choose the right teacher.

Teachers & Applications

3 questions

If you have expertise in a subject and a passion for teaching, you can apply to become a teacher. Click 'Become a Teacher' in the navigation or footer to start your application. The process includes: 1. Fill out your profile — add your qualifications, experience, and subjects. 2. Record an introduction video — tell students about yourself and your teaching style. 3. Set your availability — choose when you're available to teach. 4. Set your price — decide how much to charge per lesson. 5. Submit for review — our team reviews your application and approves it if everything looks good. Once approved, students can find you in search results and book lessons with you.

Teachers earn money from each lesson they teach. After a lesson is completed, the lesson fee goes into a holding period (typically 14 days) to allow for any disputes. After the hold period ends, the funds become available for withdrawal. Teachers can withdraw their earnings via: • Wise — international bank transfer (available in many countries). • PayPal — instant transfer to your PayPal account. There is a minimum withdrawal amount of $10.00. Teachers who have completed at least 10 lessons may be eligible for early withdrawal (before the hold period ends) for a small fee.

iPractis takes a commission on each lesson to cover platform costs (payment processing, classroom technology, support, etc.). The commission is: • 40% on the first lesson with a new student — this covers the cost of acquiring the student through our marketplace. • 15% on subsequent lessons with the same student. This means the more you teach the same students, the more you earn per lesson. Teachers keep 60% on the first lesson and 85% on all following lessons.

Disputes & Safety

3 questions

If something went wrong with a lesson (e.g., the teacher didn't show, the lesson was cut short, or you had a serious quality issue), you can open a dispute from your lesson history. Disputes can be opened within 72 hours after the lesson completes. Our team reviews each dispute carefully, looking at lesson recordings, chat logs, and any evidence provided by both sides. We aim to resolve disputes within 3 business days.

Safety is a top priority. We take several measures to ensure a safe learning environment: • All teachers go through an application review process. • All communication stays within the platform — no sharing of personal contact info. • Lessons can be monitored for quality and safety. • You can report any concerning behavior directly to our support team. • We have a Code of Conduct that all users must follow. If you ever feel uncomfortable, you can end a lesson immediately and report the issue. We take all reports seriously and will take appropriate action.

Our Code of Conduct sets expectations for all users. Key rules include: • Respectful communication at all times. • No sharing of personal contact information (phone, email, social media). • No inappropriate or offensive behavior. • Lessons must be educational in nature. • Teachers must show up on time and be prepared. Violations can result in warnings, temporary suspension, or permanent removal from the platform.

Before deleting, please note: • Any remaining wallet balance will be forfeited. • Upcoming lessons will be cancelled. • Your profile and data will be permanently removed. If you're a teacher with pending earnings, you should withdraw your balance before deleting your account.
